Don't drink and drive. I'll never forget that night. That sound and that crash. Life for me will never be the same again. How would you like to have no use of any of your limbs again? Because that's what it is like for me for that rest of my life. Quadriplegic at the age of sixteen. Well, life's tough, my boyfriend died frorm drunk driving and I am paralyzed. You try living with that for the rest of your life.

That night was the worst night of my life. Yet out of the unpleasant night came the biggest lesson I have ever learnt. No, not "Don't drink and drive" because that one's for you. Life is short. Take it from a pro. Make use of it. Be all you can be and enjoy it because it doesn't last. After being so close to death I realized that life is special. You, me, everybody, we are all special and there will never be another you or me.

This story is only made up but anything could have been real. When you drink and drive, you are not only putting your life at stake, you are also putting the lives of innocent people at stake. Every thirty minutes, someone on this continent dies of an alcohol-related crash. Also, last year alone over one million people were injured in alcohol related traffic accidents. Statistics show that in 2000-2001, two hundred and thirty-three people have died from drunk driving. The more a person drinks, the more ability to make important driving decisions becomes damaged. After just one drink, a driver can begin to lose their capability to perform the tasks essential to drive a car. Such as: steering, braking, changing lanes, and using judgment to adjust to changing road conditions. At a certain point, a driver will become legally intoxicated and can be arrested for attempting to operate a motor vehicle.
