"People ned people". An old saying, but one that still holds true today. John Stienbeck stressed this theme frequently in his book Of Mice and Men . Everybody needs somebody, no one wnast to be alone for ever.
Curley's wife is a good example of pele need peole. She was alwyta walking around asking poeple "Have you guys seen Curley?"and when they said no she would try to stay there and start a conversation, btu nobody would wnat to talk to her because she was the boss's son's wife and someone might rat on someone else whcih would lead to someone getting fired. So the eventual result was no one would talk to Curley's wife, leaving her alone with no friends. So she ended up being mad at everyone and trying to get other peoples attention by flirting with them, giving her a non-respectable socirty name.
Crooks is one of the best edamples of lonliness in the bok. He was a lonley black stbale buck that wasn't treated as fairly as the oter workers on the farm because he's black. No one slept in the same room with him and they only talked to him to tell him to do something. This disconcern fr his feelings as caused by the color of his skin. Back then poeple who were black weren't treated as fairly as poeple of a lighter skin. And since there was no one of the ranch of same skin as he was, he was left alone with no one else to talk to that could relate to him or help him with his problems. So with no friends or any one to talk to he turnewd to books. They wer his onyl companion and they coudn't talk back or help him with anything.
