Gender and Leisure
GENDER DIFFERENCES IN TERMS OF LEISUREThere are many approaches to defining leisure. Many languages, such as German, Spanish, and Japanese, have no equivalent term. Most languages have some concept of "free time". In general use, "leisure is what we do for fun". A slightly more sophisticated version would be that leisure is activity we do primarily for the experience. It is obvious that as the machines do most of our work, we will have more leisure time. Another issue about the social leisure is the routines and repetitiveness in some activity patterns. As life is routinized new experiences and possibilities can be found in terms of leisure activities. Beside those, people need times of their own where they can face with daily issues, trying to find answers to the questions of daily problems and even day dreaming. These approaches are the leisure practices, which cannot be considered as social. Creativeness may come from group and communal works but without an individualistic basic idea it is difficult to reach a success in life even in terms of leisure patterns. s.
