Divorce

Marriage is a commitment two people make for the rest of their lives. It is all about the understanding and the love for each other. Marriage is the strongest and the most respected relationship between a man and a woman. It binds them strongly together, sharing the same life, interests, house and children. They also share their good times and stand by each other in bad times. However, unless one is careful when choosing the person who is going to share his life, this joyful event might end up with divorce, which is one of the toughest and most painful events that might face a family, especially when there are children involved. However, divorce doesn't always have to be bad. In some cases, it is the only way to live in peace. It occurs when the husband and wife feel that a separation is the only way to put an end to their problems.

Divorce usually means the start of serious problems and quarrels between the mother and the father. One of the most important issues they quarrel about is 'child custody' which means who's going to take care of the child and with which parent should the child stay. This issue is usually solved by'joint custody' which means that both parents are to share in taking decisions in matters concerning the children. The important thing behind joint-legal custody is "to make it clear that even in a divorce situation a child has two parents and there is to be communication encouraged between both parents with regard to issues effecting the children" (Gornbein 1) because "without joint custody, one parent is put in the role of a visitor and that's not good for the children" (Dixon 2). Joint custody gives the child a chance to grow up with two parents. Even if they're not living in the same house, but still, the child has two parents to turn to whenever he needs advice or support.
