The reaction on The Scarlet Letter PBS' version
A detailed Summary of The reaction on The Scarlet Letter PBS' version
The PBS' Scarlet Letter is a great adaptation of Hawthrone's original THE SCARLET LETTER. The movie is not only faithful to the original novel, but it also does a wonderful job of giving the audience the visual version of the story that is well described in both the story itself and the emotion of the characters.
The movie unhurriedly takes time to follow the whole story in almost every details possible. The technique used in the production helps to make everything happen in the story more believable. For instance, in the original novel, Hawthrone emphasized the bleakness of New England's Puritan society by giving us a picture that everybody wears dark color clothing and lives their lives so rigidly eventhough in the public holiday like the election day which is quite untrue to the reality. But the movie just makes this aspect more credible b

The camera ankles are also helpful to the story. In the first scaffold scene, the low camera ankle first makes it appear to us that the scaffold, which is the place to declare Hester's guilt and her sinful token, is higher than the balcony of the meeting house, which is the place where men of high reverence of the town sit. The second time in the first scaffold scene, the camera ankle creates such a picture to the audience when Dimmesdale stands up to face Hester to ask her who is the father of her child, another low camera ankle makes it look like he is also standing on the scaffold. Another time that the using of camera ankle tecnique shows it important roll is in the second half of the story where Hester meets Chillingworth. In this part Hawthrone tells the readers that Hester then knows Chillingworth has been eaten up by his own
