What is religion? What is the role of religion in our lives? Religion has been described as a belief in god.... Belief that is without any reason except that god is there to be worshiped than to be questioned. But another meaning of the word could be the belief of a person in his own self, and has nothing to do with god at all. So then religion could be any kind of feeling, force or drive that motivates a person toward his or her desires, whatever they may be. This divides the world into two halves, on one hand is the group that says, "we believe in god and all his power without any doubt or questions" and on the other hand is the group that says, "We don't believe in the concept of god, we however believe in achieving our goals and that is our religion. There many reasons why people don't believe in god, it could be due to their deep faith in modern science and its discoveries. It has, as a matter of fact been proven scientifically that the universe was not created by god but was a result of a big explosion of condensed energy billions of years ago .It has been proven scientifically that man was not sent down to the earth form heaven by god but man is rather a feat of evolution. So does religion do more harm than good? It is up to each individual to decide that for himself. To some, God is what gets them through their day; to others it's making a few more bucks. I have no right to judge people for not believing in God, just as they have no right to tell me my religion in some ways are wrong. In a way religion is a controversial subject, there are so many different angles and aspects, and the slightest suggestion or comment could offend or delight a person. Religion indeed can be very beneficial, or on the contrary very harmful, or even have no influence at all whether it is positive or negative. I say it is always worth the risk.

The person who believes in god and the person who does not believe in god do not merely disagree about god. They disagree about the very character and concept of the universe .The believers are convinced that each and everything exists because of god and gods creative activity while the non-believers are convinced that nature and natural objects exist on their own, without any ultimate reason or purpose for being.

If we look at religion and its effects on society, it is confusing. Because a group practicing a religion is observed to be at peace with it, its members interact with each other and try to achieve a common purpose. However when this group of people is brought in contact with another group of people who follow a different religion, a conflict is bound to erupt. How these people who seemed too peaceful and constructive, change into something completely different.
