In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, certain characters show that when theycare for someone, and when they are simple and appreciative of everything they have, volumes of knowledge are gained. One can observe that Joe and biddy are simple. Because they live such unintricate lives, they can cherish everything that Pip brings to them, being joys or sadness. However, because of the experience they have acquired over the years, they have been molded into intelligent and wise beings.
