Internet. A huge technological chapter. An enormous innovation. The mean that has set new standards in communication, education and businesses among others. Users located in the 4 corners of the world have now the chance to discuss, exchange opinions about any possible issue or even see each other with the help of a web-cam. No-need for expensive phone calls. No-need for stamps and envelopes thanks to the electronic mail.

On-Line gaming has given another dimension to entertainment. Anyone with an Internet access has now the change of playing numerous games with other users. Why bother going out to watch a movie? So in fact Internet does keep us away from social events. It takes us away from the books and media. By exaggerating this we can assume that we could reach a point that instead of owning the net, the net itself will own us. And this would be certainly a disaster. We should also bear in mind that Internet is an important mean of globalization. And this social move is not welcoming by many.

Still this great innovation (like all great innovations) has its thumbed down effects and it's a tough job for any Internet freak including myself to admit the cons of it. But there are important consequences in the individual and subsequently in society. I will talk about my own experience but I think using myself as an example is more realistic and accurate while it definitely represents a greater part of Internet users.

Internet as any great innovation has its pros and cons. Its up to us to use it effectively enough to isolate the benefits of it without sacrificing our social lives and most important damaging our health.
