Cause and Effect Essay - Borders/The Bicycle/Lysandras Poem

The choices people make today, have either small consequences, or large consequences. This occurs in the following three short stories. In "Borders", written by Thomas King, Laetitia decides to move off the reserve. Her mother cannot say she is either American or Canadian and this results in not being able to cross the border. In "The Bicycle", by Jillian Horton, Hannah decides to ride her bike against the wishes of her aunt and also refuses a plane ticket to New York which jeopardizes her music career. In "Lysandra's Poem", written by Budge Wilson, Elaine decides to join the poetry contest, and Lysandra decides to dance with the boy Elaine liked. In each of the short stories, the main characters make choices that results in a consequence, either positive or negative.

It is evident from the stories that every decision that we make has a consequence. These consequences can be good when the choices are good, or can be bad when the choices are poor. But it also evident that the choices we make and the ultimate consequences can be hard to predict and can be dependent on others. Good choices should be made which considers the feeling of others and which considers the potentially bad consequence.

and there are also better opportunities in a large city. In another character decision, Laetitia's mother refuses to cooperate at the border by stating that she is neither an American or Canadian citizen. "Blackfoot side"(Ki
