I can still remember vividly the last night lying on the beach. The sky was fully strewn with stars and the salty sea breeze gently touched my face. It had been the most meaningful eight days in my life. Now, I've become a mature young woman rather than a timid little girl.

During my first spring break after I came to America, another International student and I joined a "kayaking/camping trip" to Baja, California with my science teacher, Bryan. We understood neither "camping" nor "kayaking", and naively thought we would stay in fine hotels for eight days. Ultimately, we realized why we were the "only two girls" on this trip. However, this unexpected "accident" has brought the greatest change in my life. I've gained the strength to accomplish my goals and the beliefs that develop my values.

On an awful windy day, we spent the whole afternoon kayaking to another island. I had pushed the paddle with a great reluctance with my partner's left-and-right commands. The only thing to do was to paddle, paddle, and PADDLE. He asked

It was also really hard to share a bowl of potatoes, a box of cereal, and a limited amount of water with seven other people. During the eight days, we all had to dump everything from the portable toilet into the ocean.

It was the last night in Baja. I was still surprised that my foot was not burned from walking on the campfire. Bryan had explained in the past few days that coal does not conduct heat well and all the boys had tried more then once. "Why not just give it a try?" I told myself. My instinctive desire of trying new things was burning violently in my heart and telling me that I would regret in the rest of my life if I didn't do it.
