How is Eugenics used to manage twentieth century society?
How is Eugenics used to manage twentieth century society? The basis for the following essay is a theory known as Eugenics. I will begin at first, to outline what eugenics actually is, from where it originated and who found it. For the larger extent the above question will addressed. How was the Eugenics was used to manage society during the twentieth century? The term Eugenics became familiar during the early 1900's, founded by a scientist named Sir Francis Galton and it is, in brief, the usage of science in solving social problems. It is described by Larry Arnhardt in Darwinian Natural Right: The Biological Ethics of Human Nature as " the study of agencies under social control that may improve or impair the racial qualities of future generations either physically or mentally". From the 1920's onwards Eugenics began to draw support, however it always remained a subject that the public was reluctant to accept as it was deemed unjust and unethical to intervene in the evolutionary process. One of the most obvious cases of eugenic theory trying to be used to manage society is in the megalomania of Hitler in Nazi Germany. Hitler introduced the 'Law for the prevention of hereditary diseased offspring' that
In conclusion, eugenic policy is very much in existence in today's society. It is used to manage people everyday but seems to be masqueraded, not as a scientific tool with the sole purpose to improve people as it once was, but as a statutory obligation to the population that they should be given the best opportunity, prospects, conditions and chance at developing and being healthy. Eugenics is, in my opinion what keeps everything pushing in the same direction, the direction of healthier, superior, and better. We do not seem to live a world where Eugenics is on top of the national agenda but it unequivocally exists and is undoubtedly used to manage society is many ways. Persons below the poverty line +10% -27% Women who become chronic welfare recipients +7% -19% Children born out of wedlock +8% -16%
