My Last Summer
A detailed Summary of My Last Summer
"What happened to the engine?" My sister asked with a look of terror strewed across her face. "There must be a problem with the oil." My grandfather said. "How long do you think we'll be stuck out here?" I asked. "Least two hours." my grandmother said with a bit of a sigh. It was early on a summer day up in Round Pond Maine. The sun had just blossomed over the watery horizon ahead. The Tide was up, our boat; the "Salt Air" was out, and we decided to take a ride out to sea.
"You got the poles grandpa?" I hollered back as I started loading the boat. My sister and I had recently received our licenses and we were anxious to drive the boat. "I grabbed a camera in case we catch something." My grandmother said as she came out of the cabin. She was brandishing a camera and had a bag around her shoulder that had sandwiches peeking out of the top. All set? My grandfather called. Then he picked up the anchor and shouted... "Let's take her out. "I turned the key. There was a low rumble of the engine. The smell of fumes wafted into my nose as I set the bilge, trimmed the engine, and drove it out of the harbor.
I loved driving. The salt in my hair, the smell of fish. When I wasn't driving, I missed it as the sun misses the flower in the de

ad of winter, because for the first time, I was in control. "That's it keep it steady now."I heard from behind me." Let's do a few passes around these islands and we'll start fishing. I pulled the boat up to the edge of an island. We unloaded the boat, and started fishing.
The ocean was teeming with fish. It seemed as though we caught a fish every 30 seconds. "We were only fishing ten minutes!" My sister exclaimed. "We already have dinner for the week." My grandmother said with a slight chuckle. "Let's eat and then your sister can drive. However, we had barely made it a hundred yards when...BANG! The sound of a gunshot cracked through the air as the engine smoked, and came to a halt.
"When you get your boat fixed, come on over to my island." He told us. "You own your own island I said in disbelief. Yea, it's that island on the other side of this island. It has the huge flagpole on it. "Indian Island?" My grandfather said. The man gave us a nod. "That's the biggest island in Round Pond." He said. The man gave another nod and said with a slight chuckle... "You should come over sometime and look. It's private so don't worry about tourists." Then he gave us a wave and rode off into the horizon.
