In the time period in which the Titanic sailed, a new technology called wireless was still an erratic novelty. Wireless was the basic tool used between ships and other vessels to communicate. With this being the new technology of the day, people were fascinated with how it worked. They would often bribe wireless operators to send messages to relatives or friends on other ships. The operators were more than willing to receive these bribes and send the messages without a second thought.

A lack of lifeboats was an effect of this ideology. There were only 16 lifeboats and 4 collapsibles designed to accompany the Titanic. They could only hold 1,178 passengers out of the 2,207 passengers present. Even as the Titanic sunk people didn't fill the lifeboats to capacity and only 675 passengers survived. If people had thought that the Titanic had the slightest possibility of sinking, more safety precautions would have been taken.

No one on the Titanic thought the collision with the iceberg was a serious situation. This was all due to the ideology of an unsinkable ship.
