With the coming of the Normans the life of Anglo-Saxon has changed. The English language disappeared and it was dealt only by the lower classes of society. The Normans have carried with them many new French ideas and administrations. The literature of the invaders was dominant of the Anglo-Saxons. It has impressed a lot in the English one. In spite it was still new, yet it had very rapid growth. Domesday Book is considered the most important not book but a catalogue of the lands' names that William the Conquer took by force.
Again, the main theme of Norman's poetry is war but what differentiate it from English one is the way Normans deal with this theme. Song of Roland is the most great war poem. It is anonymous poem which deals with the theme of war. In this respect, Songs of Roland are similar to Beowulf but the coming from Battle of Malden and Beowulf to the song of Roland is like the coming from darkness to light. The fist important historical book speaks of those legends is Geoffrey of Monmouth's History of the Britons. It speaks about Brutus the father of Britons as a heroic leader of a superior power who planned to combine Scotland, Ireland, Island, and Sweden. He defeated the Anglo-Saxon and the legend made him the grandson of Aeneas the classical hero. The French literature is more interested in the classical origins than Christian ones.
So, French will start gradually to use English language and English will start gradually to use French language. Two centuries later English will try to imitate the same clarity and whiteness of French poetry. In fact, French poetry is more joyful and splendor than the English one.
