Pearl Harbor Vs. September 11th
Two dark days in the history of the United States affected many Americans and changed their lives forever. The memories that were carried from the dates December 7th, 1941 and September 11th, 2001 are dates which will never be forgotten, as Americans remember the lives of innocent people that were taken by acts of war. These days are similar in some ways, however different in other ways. Americans don't know about the power that these two dates hold on America, as well as how these two dates are very similar and yet very different."Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy. The united states of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the empire of Japan..." These are the fine words that were stated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the congress on December 8th, 1941. At approximately 8:00 A.M., Sunday morning, December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor, which is located on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii, was attacked by the Japanese fleet both by air and by sea. The surprise attack had been conceived by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. The striking force of 353 Japanese aircraft was led by Commander Mitsuo Fuchida. There had been no formal declaration of war. During the attack of Pearl Harb
One of the outcomes of the attack on Pearl Harbor was the National Security Act of 1947, which reorganized and centralized the intelligence community with the creation of the Central Intelligence Agency. This was put in because of the attacks of Pearl Harbor and therefore can be compared to the September 11th attacks. The key defense against terrorism is intelligence. With the spies and Central Intelligence Agency, it is hard for the terrorist to go about their plans because if the intelligence finds out about this, it could ruin their plans for terrorism; this could cause them to either give up for keep trying to think of another plan which could take years. Another comparison is that Terrorists can hide their movements from imagery satellites, and bury their communications in a sea of noise, but they must collaborate with other humans, and make their movements known to those who know where to look. So no matter how hard one can try to hide something, someone is bound to know and tell. December 7th, 1941 and September 11th, 2001. These are two dates that made America unite and become strong. Although these dates may have similarities and differences, these are two very important dates that will be remembered by Americans for as long as they live. Most people remember what they were doing at the time of the attacks, because the feeling that they had on those brisk mornings is a feeling that will remain with them for as long as they live. There are two devistating dates: December 7th, 1941, and September 11th, 2001. Days which will live in infamy. The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked in efforts to make the American economy fall to the gates of hell. However, we Americans will remain strong and show the world that we will never give up. "Terrorism against our nation will not stand." or, many lives were taken and many ships and aircraft were damaged. To view what these two days have in common, it is best to take Roosevelt's speech that was given to congress the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The first section of the speech states "Yesterday, December 7th, 1941, a date which
