A detailed Summary of Personal Goals

In Los Angeles County, there are so many families without a home. Although there are plenty of places available out there, the cost of rent is so high that anyone with an average wage job could not survive on their own especially with a family. People search for jobs in LA County and find that majority of these positions require experience or college degrees to apply. The welfare system does not provide enough income for families to survive in a high priced society. The system only provides just enough to get buy with some food and maybe a bill or two. When someone decides to start a homeless shelter and transitional housing, they receive a ton of challenges. As more transitional housing programs open, homeless families will have more of a chance to become healthy and independent again.

My personal goal is to open a transitional housing program for homeless families in Los Angeles County. My city of interest is Long Beach, California or a surrounding area. My main focus is helping homeless families with a stable place to live without any initial charges. They will be housed in their own fully furnished apartment for approximately 6 to 24 months. They will be provided food for the first 2 months when they sig

The families will learn how to manage their money by budgeting and saving which is required for their future move into a permanent home. By the end of their program they will be self-sufficient with stable employment and know how to manage their money on their own. They will know what it takes to get their children into school and feed them properly. They will have an alcohol and drug free home setting examples for their children. They will know how to manage their anger and discipline their children in a loving manner. They will be proud of themselves that they have achieved independence and can maintain a home of their own permanently.

The transitional housing program consist of not only housing for families, they will be provided a number of services while staying in the program. These services include, General, drug and alcohol counseling, case management, life skills training, assistance in finding job training and job search. They will be provided childcare on the facility and transportation to interviews, schools, job training, grocery store, the Department of Human Services and other services outside of the facility. The families must be drug and alcohol free or in a rehabilitation program to become free of substances. The families will be provided with assistance in domestic violence and anger management. There will be monthly scheduled classes and meetings
