Religion and The Schools

Religious schools, are they really all that they are cracked up to be? Sure a lot of students are into religion, many of tehm are very religiously active. A lot of teachers are too, but of course not everyone is. Forcing religion in school is unjust for those who do not believe in that certain religion or even to those who do not believe in any religion at all.

The bill of rights has an amendment that states that people have freedom of religion. That same amendment clearly states that there is also such a thing as freedom from religion. Enforcing one religion in public schools would be a violation to that amendment and the bill of rights. Children have enough stress as it is then to come to a school and be forced to a religion that they do not even believe in is wrong. Think about how the young students of the Wiccan/ Buddhist/ Muslim/ etc. religion would feel if they had to at least p

retend to believe in something they really didn't just so they wouldn't get shunned by their peers. No student should ever be pressured into believing in something they really don't.

Opponents believe that this rule would decrease drop out rate. Think about this really. If you were forced to believe in, oh lets say, the Devil, wouldn't you seriously consider dropping out? The majority of the students believe in Christianity, but just by a little bit. Public schools are so diverse when it comes to religion. It's a very close race when it comes to religious prefrence, a little to close maybe. Interviewing 50 students at my school only 50 percent were Christian, the rest were others. Even though that may seem like enough, it really isnt. That was only 50 kids. There are about, if not more, 1350 students who attend North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
