Comparison of A Beautiful Mind and One Flew Over the Cuckoo
Both One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and A Beautiful Mind are award winning movies which closely analyze psychological behaviour and behaviour modification. The movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, starring Jack Nicholson, is about a common criminal who others believe has psychological problems which result to him being admitted to a mental institution as a form of punishment. At this institute McMurphy, Nicholson, builds close relationships with the other patients in his ward. He helps these new friends in so many ways, in fact, some of them are not truly psychologically ill, they are just coerced into believing it, or acting it, similar to McMurphy. The other movie, A Beautiful Mind, is about John Nash, Russel Crow, a mathematician who can break down codes. It starts off with Nash as a student at Princeton who begins to develop schizophrenia and hallucinations. He has a few break downs which require him to take drugs as a form of treatment. The film continues with a lot of suspense and drama which conclude to a peaceful end. A Beautiful Mind is based on a true story, where as to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is purely fictional. One obvious difference within these two movies is that John Nash from A Beautiful Mind
