Salem Witch Trials/The Crucible
A detailed Summary of Salem Witch Trials/The Crucible
Ethics is defined as the system of moral values or the principle of right or wrong conduct. In the movie, The Crucible, the characters showed many different types of ethical decisions. One of these characters was Abigail Williams. Abigail Williams showed many examples of bad ethics.
First, Abigail started showing that she had bad ethics at the very beginning of the movie. After being caught dancing naked in the woods by her uncle, she told the townspeople that Tituba bewitched her and forced her to do these things. Abigail said this so nobody would blame her for what she did. They would accuse Tituba of being a witch. Throughout the movie, Abigail continued accusing people of being witches. Many townspeople believed Abigail and her friends were telling the truth and wouldn't listen to the accused. During her trial, Martha Carrier was quoted as saying, "...I am wronged. It is a shameful thing that you shoul

Second, Abigail continued lying, and she started using her power to manipulate the townspeople for her own evil purposes. She threatened people with her power if they told anyone the truth or did anything that would get her in trouble. In the movie Abigail said, "And mark this. Let either of you breathe a word or the edge of a word, about the other things and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it; I saw the Indians smash my dear parents' heads on the pillow next to mine and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down!" Abigail accused Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch, so she could be with Elizabeth's husband, John. Earlier, Abigail had an affair with John. I think Abigail made two unethical decisions in this example. Abigail used her power over the town
