Jane Austen's The Pride and the Prejudice, was her masterwork that was written in the year 1813. She wrote this novel in her late thirties. Many critics commented on Jane Austen's novel The Pride and the Prejudice, it was no surprise that many enjoyed this novel. Sir Walter Scott stated that "That lady (referring to Jane) had a way with describing the involvements, and feelings, and characters of ordinary life, which is to me the most wonderful that I have ever met with. (Scott) Another critic had much to say about Jane and her novel The Pride and the Prejudice. His name is Francis Hovey Stoddard, and he stated "We can claim that this novel is not only an expression of a complete novel form; it is not only an expression of a complete literary method; it is also an embodiment of completed ideals. (Stoddard) so, he is saying that Jane Austen is a good writer because she makes sure that everything thing in the novel in complete so all my understand it. In Jane Austen's life she lived through two major wars that mush have affected her life in some way. She might not have been severely affected, but in her book The pride and Prejudice, it shows in different ways that the war was a cause of why she wrote in the manner that she did. The first example of this is when she brings the point of different social classes up. The entire book, The pride and Prejudice, discuss about what each character thinks of the social classes. Some of the characters think that a social class is no big deal like Bingley, but there are others that look at a social class as a boundary and a limit like Darcy did at first in the novel. Ones social class is based on how much money one may posses. It has nothing to do with how well on acts, or even how nice one might be, it is strictly based on money. In then novel, Darcy and Bingley are a higher social class than the entire Bennet family is. This appears to be a big deal at first, but in the end it has no effect because love takes over and both Darcy and Bingley marry a woman in a lower social class. Darcy may have thought that he was better than the Bennet family due to the truth that in some countries like England men in the lower social classes have to go and fight before the men in the higher and more respectable social classes. In Jane Austen's novel The Pride and Prejudice, there are several different characters that play big parts in the story. There is an entire family that is introduced through out this novel. The family's last name is the Bennet's. The Father of the family is known as Mr. Bennet throughout the novel. Mr. Bennet is married to Mrs. Bennet and he has five daughters that have yet to be married. Mr. Bennet is good at bothering his wife due to his cynical and sarcastic personality. He is the patriarch of his family. He loves all of his daughters; he is not the best parent. Mr. Bennet would rather run from his problems rather than helping his daughters out with their mirage problems. The next one is Mrs. Bennet, she has one goal in her life and that is to see all five of her daughters married. She is also a noisy and foolish woman. She and Mr. Bennet never agree on the men that she pick their daughters. The oldest daughter of the family is Jane Bennet, and she is the prettiest of all of Mr. Bennet's daughters. Jane is not like Elizabeth because she is more reserved and gentler. The second oldest daughter is Elizabeth. Elizabeth is Mr. Bennet's favorite daughter and she is the novel protagonist. Elizabeth is the most intelligent and sensible of all of her sisters. Elizabeth has a mouth that may seem to be bad for her own good. The third oldest daughter in the Bennet family is Mary. Mary is boring and studious. The second youngest Bennet daughter is Catherine. Catherine is all about dating and finding someone to marry. The youngest daughter is Lydia and she is like Catherine. Lydia runs after romance and she ends up running away with a man named Wickham. Lydia is immature, suck on her self, and she is very gossipy. The next Character is the one that Lydia ran away with and his name is George Wickham. Wickham is a handsome officer and he attracts Elizabeth at first. Wickham had a past that scares Elizabeth off. There is another guy in the book named Fitzwilliam Darcy and he is a rich man who is the master of Pemberley. He is the nephew of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Darcy is very intelligent and an honest person, but he has to much pride which is not a good thing. He falls for Elizabeth in this novel. Another guy named Charles Bingley and he is Darcy's best friend. Bingley is easy going and has good intentions for his future. Bingley does not care about class differences in the world around him. The next character is Darcy's sister and her name is Georgiana Darcy. Georgiana is really shy, but she is also really pretty. She is really good at playing the pianoforte. Mr. Bennet has a brother
