Good Vs Evil
William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies, is a story about a group of good English boys, who's plane is shot down, and plummets onto a deserted island, trying to flee from war. After landing on the island, they try to organize a structure to the new society they are forced to live in. They elect Ralph as leader, and come up with a plan to be rescued, which includes setting up a signal fire. Little did the boys know that despite their efforts to remain civilized, the inner savage in each of them would comes out. What comes of the plot is the basic good vs. evil story, and an excellent novel. The main theme of good vs. evil allows for people to relate to the story. The theme comes out through the characters and their actions, but mostly with the two main characters Ralph and Jack. I believe that every person has a little of both characters in themselves, and that's what makes the story so appealing. Ralph is a protagonist, and the most appealing character in the story. He's a twelve-year-old boy, who is elected to be the leader of the group. Ralph represents order, leadership, and civilization. He's the boy who most people in the world today appear to be; the boy
The theme of good vs. evil is present in many of today's novels and movies, which is probably why this book is so appealing to so many people. The author, William Golding, was in the navy during World War II, which why the novel can be compared to events and people during that time period. The evil in Jack is much like the evil in Adolf Hitler and the Axis of Evil, and chaos during that time period also is much like the chaos that happens in this story. Ralph's character may represent the Allies that were fighting to keep order in the world. This is only one interpretation of the theme, but there is room for many other interpretations as well. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking to read a good novel. I think it would basically appeal to almost anyone, because the main theme of good vs. evil is something that everyone can relate to. William Golding wrote and excellent novel, and I would give it two thumbs up. who follows rules and is always looking for a way to accomplish a goal. Despite being on an island without parents, Ralph remains for the most part civilized. While the other boys are playing, hunting, and avoiding having to do any work,
