Pride and Prejudice

A detailed Summary of Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth bennet grows, matures, and chages due to life experiences.

People undergo numerous transformations, both physically and emotionally throughout their lifetime. We begin life as innocent, clueless children, whose actions are influenced by elders. We are completely dependent on others, from simple tasks as getting dressed, eating, and learning how to speak. We are either taught right from wrong, or form our own opinion studying our guardians. The environment we grow up in shapes the person we become. But as we grow up, we form our own ideas and strive to become independent. Active participation in events or activities, leads to the accumulation of new skills or knowledge. Our viewpoints change constantly, while we abandon past beliefs. Encountering certain situations makes it impossible for us to be the person we were. From suffering from a great loss, experiencing blissfully happy moments, excruciating pain, or getting a taste of freedom, we pass from one phase to another. Each phase provides new information to be learned, questions to be answered, and an opportunity to create a new lifestyle. Each and every one of these new experiences allows us to mature, learn, and change into the person we were destined and choose t

Most importantly, Elizabeth as well as Darcy had to see past their prejudice and arrogance, which happened to be their biggest faults. They had to put the other before themselves and forget their pride and apologize. By doing this they would show that they loved the other more then themselves and allow them to be together. An example where this finally occurs is when Elizabeth turned Darcy down when he proposed the first time. Although the rejection was a blow to his pride, instead of taking this badly and refusing to speak to her again, he swallowed his pride and remained calm. He felt compelled to explain the truth to her because the thought of her hating him for false reasons was unbearable. His letter began a humbling process for both Elizabeth and him, which resulted in a maturation of each of their attitudes toward the other. The resulting letter revealed to Elizabeth how she misjudged both him and Wickham. With the extent of her mistaken prejudice suddenly apparent, she was humbled enough to begin to look at Darcy in a new way. Admitting her error demonstrated how she matured emotionally, and was now able to admit when she was wrong. This new change of attitude allowed her to notice Darcy's real nature. For example, when she was visiting Pemberly she accidentally ran into Darcy. She observed how he was a complete gentleman, despite her previous rudeness. This courteous behavior illustrated his love for her and she realized she had been just as arrogant as he had.

This love story concludes with them happily marrying after overcoming all the obstacles thrown in their path. This would not have happened if they had not experienced every single moment together. Every argument, conversation, and look, allowed them to mature and adapt a new personality to cope with each other. They also grew out of their bad habits, and learned to manage them more efficiently. As Elizabeth gradually came to recognize the nobility of Darcy's character, she realized the error of her initial prejudice against him. She detested him because he thought too highly of himself, but finally realized she thought herself to be better then him as well. Both had mostly been blinded from love by their pride and prejudice. Darcy himself was proud of his social status, and believed he was better then his Lizzy d
