Book report on Acroos the barricades

The Catholic boy Kevin McCoy and the Protestant girl Sadie Jackson were raised in a poor area in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They played a lot when they were kids, but their friendship was torn apart by the conflict between Protestants and Catholics. Sadies family moved to a Catholic part of Belfast and thy didn't meet for three years. One day they met each other by accident on the street in Belfast. They started to see eachother, but they had to keep it secret because people did not like catolics and protestants to date. They fell in love, but their relationship wasn't very popular among their families and friends, who tried to convince them to stop seeing echother, but there was no way they could give up their secret meetings.

Kevin lived in the worst possible area for seeing a Protestant girl, the hate for Protestants was very strong among his family and friends Their relationship caused several problems for both of them. Both lost their jobs, and at one occas


Mr. Blake was a Catholic himself, and he lived in a peaceful area where nobody knew Sadie and Kevin. Sadie, who had lost her job, started to work for Mr. Blake. She was cooking and cleaning the house. Later on she started to work for the Hendersons, who lived in the same street. The Hendersons were a mixed couple, Mike was a Protestant and Moira was a Catholic. They didn't have as much trouble being together as Sadie and kevin had. Probaly because they lived in a much calmer area.

After a while, Mr. Blake started to receive anonymous letters with threats. He wasn't really scared and he didn't tell anyone about it. But one day when he is took Sadie and Kevin for a ride in the car, a wheel suddenly fell off. He realized that the car had been sabotaged and he told the police. Obviously, somebody was out to kill Mr Blake - presumably because he was housing the two lovers. He never told Kevin and Sadie about the letters and they continued to meet. It all ended with someone throwing a petrol bomb i
