Teachers

A detailed Summary of Teachers

The name of the teacher I interviewed was Mrs. Susan Knighton. Mrs. Knighton is in her late forty's. She teaches at Carnesville Elementary. As soon as you walk into her classroom you can tell she loves what she does. Teaching to her is not simply a job, but much more.

She has nineteen years of experience in this field. Currently she is teaching the fourth grade and has been for the past eighteen years. Before teaching the fourth grade, she taught fifth grade art for a year. She said she enjoys teaching the fourth grade for many reasons. In the fourth grade, students are beginning to grasp the harder concepts. For her the fourth grade was tough, this is why she enjoys teaching at this level. She wants to make sure no one leaves her class after a year and feels the same way she did coming out of this grade.

Even though Mrs. Knighton loves her job, her dreams were not always of becoming a teacher. She had a business degree, and started out in the banking business. Over a period of time she began to dislike working at the bank due to hours. Her husband was a teacher as well as a coach; therefore, her husband drew into the teaching profession. Mrs. Knighton went back to school to earn a teaching degree. With her newfo

und job, she found the hours she needed to be with her family. She said what drew her into teaching was the hours and the persuasion of her husband.

I asked Mrs. Knighton, "What is your greatest rewards in teaching"? She told me her greatest reward while teaching is to see her children learn and know she is accomplishing something so great. She said she loved to watch a student who is having difficulty with a class work, and she helps them and they understand. Teaching to her is not just a job, but also much more.

Being a teacher is what Mrs. Knighton enjoys doing. When I asked her what her expectations were in the future, she laughed. She said in the future she saw herself growing old and still teaching. She said she really enjoys teaching and something major would have to happen for her to give it up.

Mrs. Knighton informed me, her greatest challenge was to help those who do not want helped. She told me she had a student last year that would not pay attention at all. He lacked skills others were picking up and he fell behind. To Mrs. Knighton he was a challenge. She said other challenges could be at times to always stay positive and to be enthusiastic about the material you are teaching. I agreed with her answer. I believe it could be easy to get bored with a lesson, but if the students sense that, they could think they do not need to pay attention. I believe it is important to be creative with your lesson so that will not happen.

As Mrs. Knighton went into the teaching, she expected to feel rewarded seeing the children learn. After her first year of teaching she did get what she had expected, she felt rewarded. However, there was one major obstacle she did not expect. Mrs. Knighton said, "with her love for children she knew she would become attached". As she began carin
