Policing the World in One Day
A detailed Summary of Policing the World in One Day
Of all countries in the world, Canada has the most of it. It is spread across Canada but seems to centre itself in major metropolitan areas. It helps make each of us, in our own way, different, but at the same time, at home. It is cultural diversity. Canada is considered to be the most diverse country in the world. Here we do not discriminate against colour, race, language, religion, culture, nationality, ethnicity, class, occupation or education. Everyone is welcome, and treat everyone equally.
Since the mid 1800's, Canada has accepted well over 13 million immigrants from just about every part of the world. Of course with these people, come many different cultures, all of which we accept. Because of this, Canada is considered to be a heterogeneous society, which means we disregard all differences in our people. One of the most culturally diverse areas is the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughn, and Woodbridge. Some people would say that you could divide these individual cities into different cultures, and in some cases that is true. For example Brampton is hugely popular for its West Indian, Pakistani, Guyana's, Sikh, and other Middle-Eastern cultures. Markham can be noted fo

r its strong population of Asian immigrants. Similarly, Woodbridge is popular for the strict population of Italians. I come from Mississauga, where it seems like each culture from around the world was put into a big bowl and mixed up, then spread out across the city. There is no real strongly populated area where there is generally one dominating culture. It is often funny to see the reaction of classmates here in North Bay when I tell them that, living on my street, I have West Indians, Polish, Germans, Ukrainians, Chinese, Blacks, Portuguese and other races all as my immediate neighbours. North Bay and other cities in Northern Ontario do not experience the diversity of the southern area. Some people here do not even believe me when I say that in a class of 30, in high school, usually 4-5 students are Caucasian. At the same time, I can't say, until I moved here, that I had ever even met an Aboriginal person. It is amazing how different both areas are. The attitude of a lot of people up north, I find, is quite old fashion. Some northerners don't understand how so many people who are so different from each other, and don't share similar cultures, can live so close together. It is not so much that they are against diversity; they just have not experienced it before.
Although it sounds perfect, it's not that easy. There are often conflicts between different groups for different reasons. Some reasons include: wh
