Little Shop of Horrors Review
A detailed Summary of Little Shop of Horrors Review
On the evening of Saturday, April 27, 2002, I saw Little Shop of Horrors preformed at the Lyric Opera Theatre. The level of humor and spunk the musical play maintained throughout the whole performance was extraordinary. My favorite aspects of the night were the drama the accompaniment in the songs (both instrumental and voice) created and the changing dynamics.
The accompaniment during all of the songs was amazing. During "Da-Doo" in Act I, Seymour (our main character) introduces Audrey II (the plant) in a talky-singy Recitative-type song that was like a monologue for Seymour with the Ronnettes accompanying him with the phrase "Da-Doo" (which was like an ostinato.) Seymour puts the Audrey II in the store window while narrating the song and talking about when he found her after the total eclipse and all the while,

The revealing dynamics in all of the songs were intriguing too. Near the end of Act I in the duet "Feed Me (Get It)" Seymour and Audrey II sing in contrasting ways which brought out their contrasting personalities. Seymour begins singing in a piano voice and then the plant chimes in so loud and fortissimo that he scares Seymour. This scared me but was humorous because I was looking at a nerdy botanist talking to a plant! In the duet "Now (It's Just the Gas)," Seymour makes a bold move and attempts to murder the dentist (Audrey's boyfriend). Watching Seymour trying to be so bold while Orin (the dentist) didn't even take him seriously was kind of funny too. I could tell by Seymour's shaky mezzo forte-forte voice that wouldn't have the guts to kill Orin because of the dentist's bold forte-fortissimo sounds and the fac
