Judaism, Christianity and Islam
The definition of religion is defined as follows: System of belief in, worship of a supernatural power or god. From this simple word, an unbelievable amount of individual interpretations have arisen. Religion has not only become a system of belief but a cause for individuality, superiority and conflict. Throughout the centuries laws have been enacted, land taken, created and destroyed and wars have been fought in an effort to defend one's religion. Some religions have close to nothing in common while others have many similarities. When comparing the three major western religions: Judaism, Islam and Christianity, there is evidence of mutual concept, practice and law.The origin of these religions differ but were all revealed through an act or "miracle" of God. Judaism traces back to Moses but more accurately to the days of Abraham. Jews believe they are the chosen ones because Moses spoke to God when receiving the Ten Commandments. They believe they have a covenant with God and that Jesus was a prophet like Moses and not actually the Messiah. The origin of Christianity begins with Jesus. The coming of the saviour was revealed to the Virgin Mary through the angel Gabriel who was sent by God. The orig
God's existence is certainly the most important question of human philosophy. Questioning the existence of God causes one's mind to break out of the physical/sensible world and reach out to a spiritual world. Judaism, Islam and Christianity share the elements of presenting God in their faith. Their main focus of worship is God. None of these religions use relics or idols as objects of worship and all believe in a creed of monotheism. One main difference is Muslims and Jews alike regard Jesus as a prophet and not the actual Messiah. Also, Muslims reject the Biblical teachings of a "chosen" people. They advocate the unity of humans as one family under God. All three religions stress the oneness and unity of God but Christian beliefs are sometimes misunderstood because Christians believe in the trinity (God the father, son and holy spirit) Their believe in monotheism is argued, however it is not a denial of monotheism but "their understanding of the complexity of the divine being". All three religions also believe that God is the origin and source of all that exists; he is just and has provided basic rules for our guidance so that we may be good and righteous. God's guidance is also maintained in all three religions. They all preach that we are to respect everyone and help those in need. Judaism, Christianity and Islam also believe in the Golden Rule: Doing unto others what we wish others do unto us. They also advocate that we foster modest, moderation and hard work and submit ourselves to the will of God. We are to lead honest, humble lives, in a life of service to others. If one wants to prove their worship and submission to God they are to follow the commandments or rules given by God to best of their ability and they will be saved. These religions also believe that God and human beings can and should communicate with each other. By revelation God communicates to people and these revelations are made through prophets and are recorded in the Holy Scriptures of each religion. The Torah, the Bible and the Quar'an all contain revelations made by God that the followers base their beliefs on. The duty of these people is to respond with praise, prayer and humility. In Conclusion, similarities between these religions certainly outweigh the differences. When comparing the three major western religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam there is evidence of mutual concept, practice and law. In order for the many religions of our world to exist together people must lear
