Wuthering Heights

Lockwood is not a reliable narrator for a few reasons. He misinterprets things often, he's quick to make assumptions, and he's overly social, which makes people become unwilling to talk or listen to him for a long period of time, unless the person is his servant Nelly Dean. This statement demonstrates that Lockwood's expectations of the people at Wuthering Heights were completely wrong.

Lockwood does not know how to interpret other people's words and actions. His misinterpretations lead the reader to believe false information and gain wrongful identities of the characters portrayed in the novel. For example, Lockwood is treated very poorly the first time he visits the Heights and he is unpleased with the inhospitality. However, without any invitation from Heathcliff or other inhabitants of the Heights, Lockwood decides to make a return visit to the Heights the following day despite the facts that he barely knew his way and it was snowing. This time nobody even answers the door when he arrives and once somebody fi
