Anicent Egyptian Art

Egyptian art and architecture offer important clues to the religious beliefs and everyday life of that time. It is believed that the people of the Nile began producing art in the 7th millennium B.C., translation many, many moons ago. Their art consisted of decorative patterns of geometric shapes of varying sizes and obscure symbols on pottery. The direct representational drawings of animals, traps and hunters came later on (Bunson 29). The other forms of art were painting, relief, and sculpture. Relief work was 2-3 dimensional and was drawn on grids to insure accurate representation. Paintings were also produced in this process, using a prepared background of stone or mud plaster. Sculptures started off as squared blocks. A drawing was carved into the block and then cut away as the block was worked (Baines 59).

Egyptian architecture evolved at the same pace as relief, painting, and sculpture. The


Egyptian art wasn't just relegated to sculptures, pottery, and architecture the Egyptians also crafted beautiful furniture, jewelry, and clothing. Ancient Egyptian houses were sparsely furnished. Tables were rarely used; kitchen work was done on the floor. What furniture they did have was simply made and very practical (www.terraflex.co.il/ad/egypt/timelines/topics/furniture.htm). For the most part ancient Egyptian clothing was made out of linen, cotton, silk, and animal skins. But some kings and queens wore decorative ceremonial clothing with feathers and sequins and were quite unique (www.reshafim.orgil/ad/eqypt/timelines/topics/clothing.htm). Men and women both wore jewelry like earrings, bracelets, anklets, rings, and necklaces. Many beautiful minerals were incorporated into the jewelry and due to their superstitious nature Egyptians often included good luck charms called amulets into the desig
