Criminal Justice
I grew up in most of my life and had been around police. When we were little the D.A.R.E. cops would come into the classroom and teach us things about drugs and their job. I remember wanting to be a police officer when I was younger. Then something happened. I grew up and saw exactly what police did. One of my first experiences with police was when I was a sophomore. It was the week before spring break and my friends had called and wanted to go up to. So I called a couple of girlfriends of mine Jody and Nancy and asked them what they were doing. After talking to them for a few minutes, I had realized that they had been drinking. So I told them to stay where they were and I that I would come pick them up because I did not want them driving drunk. So I met up with B.jay, Mike, Joey, and Jordan, and they got some beer and we went driving up towards the mountain. Joey was 21 but did not buy the beer for Jody or Nancy. So we drove up into the snow and all was well we got out made a small fire and played in the snow for about an hour or two. It was not too much longer until we started to make our way down the mountain. It was snowing hard that night and we were driving slowly. I mean none of us were in a hurry to get
home or anything. Well Joey was driving in front of us and I was following him. We were driving down the highway when all of a sudden I see a Washington State Patrol vehicle. I was relieved when the officer kept on driving. Meanwhile little did I know that Joey and Jordan had got into a fight and Joey had stopped the Jeep. Well, Jordan thought that she would get out, walk, and get in with me. So I pull up on Jordan walking down the road and ask her what the problem was, she explained that her and Joey got into a fight and that she didn't want to ride with him anymore. So here we all were on the side of the highway when all of a sudden I see headlights break around the corner. At that moment, I knew we were fucked! I told Jordan to get into my truck. As the cop pulled near, I quickly thought of something to say. I was walking up towards the cop just as he pulled in behind us. He stepped out of his vehicle and I greeted him. He asked me how I was doing and I said just fine. He then proceeded to ask me what we were doing and all the other usual questions. I told him that I had been up in the snow with a few of my friends and we were on our way home and I had stopped to unlock my hubs. He shook his head and said ok. At this point, I thought to myself that maybe we were ok and that this cop was not going to be an asshole. Then he asked me about some beer cans that were back in the road. Which I can honestly say there was none because I had just came down that road not ten minutes ago. I told him that I knew nothing about any beer cans in the road. Then he took out his flashlight and got out of his rig. Jody, Nancy, and Jordan were sitting in my pickup still, when Officer Russ Kavins came up to my door. Russ then opened my door and shined his flashlight in my pickup. He did not see anything at first so he told the girls to get out and then he proceeded to look behind my seat and found 4full beers. Then a smile came upon his face. He asked the girls who was driving and they said Mike. Russ replied, "Mike who?" Then I raised my hand and he escorted my to the back of his Expedition. He got in and talked on his radio for a few minutes and then turned around and proceeded to ask me questions through the glass. He asked me who was drinking. Then he said "Now don't you lie to me and maybe we can reach and understanding and we can get you kids on your way." At this point, I was in a tough spot. Everyone knows that if you tell a police officer the truth that they are going to bust you but I thought that maybe this time it would be different. Russ seemed like a reasonable man; maybe he would understand that we were kids and that he was one to 90 years earlier. So, I told him the truth, the entire truth, so help me god. I had told him that I had picked up the girls earlier and that I did not want them to drink and drive. So, I explained how I picked them up and how they put the beer behind my seat and we followed Joey. Russ then asked how many beers the
