Social Construction: More Money More Problems

While new cars, expensive jewelry, or whatever material objects we may crave, provide us with joy and satisfaction, the gratification from such belongings is only momentary. The value of these material possessions not only decreases over time, for something bigger, better, and faster is always waiting to take its place, but also are taken for granted once we become accustomed to their ownership. The more luxuries we can afford, the more dispensable objects begin to appear. What was good for us yesterday is no longer sufficient today, as we have been conditioned to always lust for the next best thing. Our failure to realize the quest for superficial possessions is never-ending, has caused us to exhaust the very resources that could have been used to build something with meaning and longevity, on vain attempts at materialistic fulfillment.

You look around and there are few things, if any, more powerful, motivating, and influential than money. It is the cause of jealousy and betrayal, as well as the reason for many of our downfalls. Yet we pursue money with all of our heart. It is not the thought of having money that motivates most people, but rather the lifestyle and power that comes along with it.

What you do not realize is that what you are chasing is an illusion. There will always be something "better" than what you have, and always someone else who has it. You will never be able to achieve top status, so what is the point in chasing it? Instead of lusting for what others have, be content with what you already have. Realize that no car or house will truly bring happiness into your life. It is who and what you spend your time on that brings happiness.

Instead of worrying about cash, think about what you would like to accomplish with your life. It takes very little money to truly get by, so money is a huge factor in things. What would truly make you happy and content with yourself is really all that maters. Anyone can get some money, but few can say they helped others along the way.

No amount of money will be able to fulfill any serious voids in your life. If you are broke and thinking, all I need is a nice house and car and I would be happy, then you are misguided. Money is only good for paying the basic bills and providing you with opportunity. Despite what you think, it will not make you happy. In fact most of the time will it will cause more pain than pleasure. Understand the more money you have, the more problems you will face.

To the average citizen, a new Mercedes-Benz would be considered luxury. It is a ste
