Abraham Lincoln said many things relating to his thoughts and opinions on slavery. One famous quote that will never be forgotton was, "Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." Although this was only a little of a very large speech, this from my mind was the most effective. His days of being president helped many people realize how bad slavery is. He believed that slavery was made by mans selfish nature. Lincoln's ability to speak about slavery in the 1860's was not at all a popular idea to those who wanted to avoid the conroversial issue. He spoke out repeatedly in human life defense and dignity. When Lincoln won his party's nomination, it put him in a competition with a very powerful senator named Steven A. Douglas. Lincoln and Douglas had many debates upon slavery together which made the topic a very big issue. Many newspaper journelists watched the debate offering editorial opinions that were not supportful in american political history.
