Literary Elements in A Rose for Emily

In The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, is it clear that only through the use of literary elements are we able to see how truly great a story is. In this particular short story, similes, point of view, and plausible plot, help to make the story extremely likeable. It is as if this story was a flower in the midst of a busy city and the only thing it needed was water to survive. The water serves as the literary elements and what they did was help the flower to blossom and be recognized even among the tallest buildings.

Being able to tie similes into the story, is something that must be done in order to make the reader think of how something not only connects to the person but to other objects in the real world. Using words such as like or as they are comparing two unlike things among certain situations in the story. This not only helps to bring contrast, but it helps to broaden the mind of the reader. An


The story is seen through the eyes of first person narrator. Due to the fact that she becomes ill throughout the story, it is a little bit confusing to actually understand what is going on. She repeatedly states that she is becoming ill and she begins to see things in the wallpaper. She is basically describing everything in depth of what she sees, and helps to relive the story, so rather than just reading sentence after sentence, the readers have the ability to live in the scenes. This individual type of point of view is what actually makes the story something that will be remembered because it is coming from someone that, fact or fiction lived through it.
