The House

Creative Writing Assignment - Extra Credit

It was a dark and stormy night in a small town in New Mexico. Nobody dared to go outside in weather as bad as this. Except for two small boys who lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere. They decided to venture out to an abandoned farm house that they there were told never to go to. They were brothers who were eight and nine years old and always seemed to find themselves in some sort of trouble because they loved to try to "out dare" each other.

The farm house that they were planning on going to was an old 1900's style plantation house - you know the kind of home with the big fancy front porch, pillars, shutters, multiple entrances? Only this house was now an off-white color, had busted out and boarded up windows, holes in its roof and a number of other defects. It was known to be haunted in a very evil way. It has seen numerous people and had let few of them return to the outside world.

The boys had ridden their bikes through the treacherous rain on their way to the house. The older boy heard from an old man that the house was full of gold, but if the house were to be disturbed it would awaken the souls still living there and all hell would break loose.

So the parents were shown around by their kids exactly what rooms the boys visited. The boys told their parents about the loud rushing that kept happening and how there was a head made out of flames that came from the basement where they found the gold. The parents wanted to see this "head in the flames" person their children were talking about. The four of them go down the stairs to the main level and just before they go downstairs the mom gets a bad felling. She said that something bad was going to happen but she didn't know what.

After walking up the entrance steps to the main entrance of the house they second questioned each other about going into the house. They dared each other in to the house and it was too late. The door slammed behind them and they panicked running around the house making everything come crashing to the ground. Then they both held still in each others arms as the moment of silence set in then a rushing sound came from the basement and the whole house lit up with a red color, like the kind of red you see from a bomb. The two brothers held on to one another very tightly as a head formed in the flames that came from the basement. It was the soul of one of the slaves left in the basement to die. It demanded to know who dare to awaken it and what it is that they want before he devours them into his nightmare. They stayed in the corner and remained silent, unit the head disappeared.

Then the older boy, John, slowly got up his younger brother, Alex, did the same. They quietly walked around the house looking in each room. One of the rooms had been blocked off by a brick wall, and the bricks felt hot to the touch. The two brothers wanted to find out why that was, but they didn't know how to get around the wall. They walked around the floor level a little more and found nothing to their interest. So they decide to go upstairs.

Alex was behind John and all of the sudden he felt something grab his foot, he looked and there was nothing there, but something was trying to get him to stay at the house, he kicked free and they both ran towards the main entrance and out to their bikes where they had placed the gold from there previous trips outside. They started for there house when they heard that rushing sound again, they looked back and saw the house go up in flames, scared that they would get blamed for it they rode off as fast as they could to their home.

Gold, look at all this gold, Alex said to his older brother. See I told you he said, now mom and dad don't have to be gone all the time. They filled there pockets with as much gold as they could and tried to stand up, but they couldn't because they had way to much gold in there pockets. So they decided to make as many trips as they had to, to get a decent amount of gold. After about three trips and they were in the gold room the fire place began to close so Alex who was closest to the door got up and ran for it, just making it out in time. The fireplace closed shut with John inside. Alex tried some of
