Marijuana, Satins Advocate

The dispute of whether or not marijuana should be legal is not a new one. It is a topic that has been discussed and debated about for decades, but has not yet been resolved. The main three points of concern are the effects of the drug on an individual, society, and the medicinal value. I am against the legalization of marijuana for the purpose of recreational and medicinal use. The opposing side, believes that it would be all right for marijuana to be legal for both recreational and medical consumption.

Through intense research, it would be safe to say that marijuana use poses detrimental affects to an individual's health through recreational use, masquerades our society with threatening drivers under the influence, and shortens the lives of patients through medicinal use. Hens, marijuana should not be legalized period.

First and foremost, marijuana is hazardous to a person's health in numerous ways. Marijuana can drastically affect the immune system. Animal studies have found that THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, can damage the body's self defense cells and tissues that help protect people from diseases. When the immune system is weakened, the huma

In an argument, there may be five different components: conclusion, premise(s), qualifier(s), counterargument (s), and assumptions. A conclusion is the main idea or statement that a person is conveying. The conclusion for the above argument is that marijuana should not be legalized of marijuana for the recreational or medicinal use. A premise is a reason that supports the conclusion. One of the premises is "The herb is also known to contain even more cancer-causing chemicals than found in tobacco smoke." Another premise is "Since it is a mind-altering and psychoactive drug, consuming marijuana will change a persons mood, emotion and impairs the ability to think clearly, logically, and rationally." I used those reasons in order to get the reader to believe that marijuana should remain illegal. A qualifier is a restriction or something that makes the on the conclusion valid. When I stated the conclusion that "The consumption of marijuana can have detrimental affects on the lungs and its airways as well," the qualifier is if the marijuana user consumes the drug by smoking it, since there are other various ways of taking in the drug such as taking it orally. Only by smoking the drug makes the conclusion valid, since ingesting the drug orally does not cause damage to the lungs. A counterargument is an opposing statement that actually weakens the main argument. An example that I used is "It is true that marijuana is used to treat AIDS, cancer, and glaucoma patients." The last component of an argument is the assumption. An assumption is a statement that is not backed with any verification or support. An example is "Marijuana smoke in the lungs will kill cilia." Since I did not include any evidence of scientific studies to back up my premise with, it is an assumption.

n body is prone to get sick. The consumption of marijuana can have detrimental effects on the lungs and its airways as well. Marijuana smoke in the lungs will kill cilia. Cilia move mucous, dirt and other particles out of the lungs. Also heavy usage will decrease the lungs defense against bacterial and fungal infections. The herb is also known to contain even more cancer-causing chemicals that are found in tobacco smoke. Studies
