Animation Throughout the 20th Century
Animation Throughout the 20th Century Animation has proven to have an irresistible magic that has been a major part of the film industry since its very primitive times in the early twentieth century. The ability to make still pictures seem to move and have a character of their own has fascinated artists so much that they have sought to improve and master the art of animation. It has not only inspired people of all ages but enhanced their lives in a way of seeing a whole different world of animation, make believe and to see things that cannot happen in real life. The skills of animation have improved so much throughout the twentieth century from the way the animation is drawn to the technology used to tell a story in moving pictures. In early animation, motion was captured by drawing frame by frame, tediously perfecting each drawing to look as if it were moving. Film was usually black and white in early times and was later in color, mostly in Disney cartoons and films such as Fantasia. In the past decade, animation has grown so advanced. Movies like Walking With Dinosaurs, Lord of the Rings and Attack of the Clones proved how amazing the works of artists and directors has improved over the century. It was only recently when films started to show computer animation and digital animation in the scenes. Before, animation was mostly stop motion and it was obvious the characters weren't real. Now, characters such as dinosaurs and monsters seem to come alive and look believable thanks to the magic of computer animation. It's not only computer animation that adds to the visual effect of movies but also the design and makeup the artists use to make the characters look out of this world. With this ongoing advancement in technology, people are able to make their story plots more as they envisioned it. In early silent-film animation, the audience had to rely more on their imagination. Characters were simpler at that time but still had a likeable appeal. People can almost mistaken something fake as something in real life in movies today. As seen through Attack of the Clones, aliens and metal creatures are really made by computers but look as if they pop out of the screen and grab the audience. In Walking with Dinosaurs, the movie was made to show a type of nature program documenting the habitats and behavior of dinosaurs as if they lived today. The effects of computer animation and puppets helped make the dinosaurs seemingly blend in with their surroundings. There is no doubt that animation will continue to improve and become more and more amazing as the years go on. arner Brothers pictures. He
