Luck

The first two paragraphs on the story's last page (p.277, lines 3-22) might be said to be the climax of the Reverends narrative about the decorated British hero. Are the descriptions in the paragraphs mainly about the battle or about Scoresby? What do these paragraphs express about Scoresby?

The Story Luck by Mark Twain is about a British military hero that has won his titles and outstanding reputation purely because of Luck.

Mark Twain has used an excellent stile, which keeps the reader interested in reading the story till the very end. We will now look closer at two paragraphs (p. 277, lines 3-22) that can be said to be the climax of the story.

Mark Twain has build up the story by increasing the challenges that Scoresby has to face. In the beginni


The writer uses questions in the beginning to make it clear to the reader what is normal, and what is luck.

The bigger challenge Scoresby gets, the bigger blunder he makes. The bigger blunder he makes, the luckier he is. The more luck he has, the more admiration he gets.

He starts the first paragraph by describing the battle in short sentence (p. 277 lines 3-5) and then he builds up a longer sentence where he goes on to talk about Scoresby and how he makes his biggest blunder of them all (p. 277 lines 5-8). The end of this paragraph indicates that the climax is coming when the Reverend says, "this is the end at last." This builds up attention.
