Fury Friends-compare and contrast of dogs and cats as pets

Pets inhabit many homes around the world. Deciding on a pet can be a difficult decision and the majority of the time people tend to choose either a dog or a cat. Before choosing between the two and bringing a fury creature home a new pet owner should try to decide which characteristics are compatible with his or her life. Usually, the differences between a cat and a dog outnumber the similarities and serve as the deciding factor between the two.

With either a dog or a cat, there will be a new addition to the family and much responsibility comes along with this new member. Both depend on their owner entirely for food, shelter, and affection. Dogs and cats demand a great deal of time and expect daily attention. Great advantages come along with having a dog or a cat such as owner loyalty and good companionship. Emotional attachment and the loss of a pet are some drawbacks that are associated with bonding with a pet. Both a dog and a cat, much like a child, are known to create unwanted messes and can become an inconvenience to clean up after. It is very apparent if a dog is content or not, yet the cat is a more mysterious creature and its mood is less obvious. Seldom does a cat want to play and usually is satisfied with a minute of batting at a dangling fake mouse. A dog is also a great exercise partner, as long as its owner is willing to follow behind a dashing dog. A cat is a better suited for the inside. The dog is also much more forgiving than the cat; for example, a dog is delighted to see its owner return home from work and greets its owner at the door with lots of love. A cat rarely does this and is appalled that its owner ever left. A cat is also temperamental; for instance, at times it may want to be rubbed and other times just bored of the whole idea. A dog would want and even beg to be petted. A dog responds and is easily taught simple commands which it will perform without delay. A cat will hardly answer to its own name and does what it wants to its owner's dismay, although this quality makes the cat very self-sufficient.

After carefully considering dogs and cats' generalized personalities and actions, it should be easy for a prospective pet owner to see whi
