For many it is easier to follow the crowd then to plow a new path. In society, there have been many different portrayals of what a good person should be, dating back to the Puritan era. Stepping away from the mold always leaves room for fear and prejudice. For one to truly be unique, he or she must be willing to deal with this fear society holds for them. When one thinks of discrimination, usually three aspects come to mind: racism against people of another color, gender bias, and prejudice against cultures and their religious beliefs. Hating, judging, and attempting to change people and their views is the American way. Many have done it in the past, do it in the present, but hopefully this way of thinking will cease to continue in the future. America: "Land of Opportunity." That is how many describe it today, but such was not always the case. This is wrong for many reasons. A number of qualified people of the more populous races, and even some qualified minorities, are finding themselves at a loss for a job or better education. The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights states that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Although killing people based on their beliefs is wrong, taking advantage of a culture is equally wrong. Maybe if the First Amendment had been in effect during the Puritan Era, the Salem Witch Trials would have never taken place. However, one could say the Puritans were not killing unjustly, but just standing up for their religion that had been trampled in England. For centuries, women were thought to be inferior to men. However, to blame that way of thinking and living for the hardships women suffered may not be a reasonable conclusion. It may be conventional thinking, but at that time, it was the man that made major decisions and supported the family. Therefore, when women wanted equal rights, and roles e
