A detailed Summary of Grendel

Grendel is a very intelligent monster with very mean characteristics. In the story Beowulf, Grendel could walk into a room and kill hundreds of people at a time. He was a very vicious and horrible monster. Grendel sought acceptance, and because he did not receive it he became a cave dwelling carnivorous, creature. In the poem Beowulf, Grendel is a miserable and lonely monster, which has a very grotesque appearance, but in reality is quite human on the inside.

In medieval times a monster, was no more than a person, with serious birth defects causing them to look hideous and monstrous. Like any other human being after many years of rejection one starts to act as a monster and display the nature of ones temper. Being outsiders caused Grendel along with all the other monsters to become very unpleasant and not accepted my society. The birth defects were a sign from god, telling all living things that

this monster is exploiting and evil. Beowulf is arranged to fight 3 dragons Grendel, the monster, and Grendel's mother in order to recreate peace in the kingdom. In each fight Beowulf becomes weaker and weaker until when he is killed defeating the dragon, and that battle is said to represent the unavoidable encounter with death itself. In this kingdom Grendel is said to represent evil and inhuman attributes that need to be conquered before peace can be restored.

Grendel is a beast that kills hundreds of people at a time, so obviously he has characteristics such as large and numerous teeth and he has to be gigantic, tall and ugly.
