When the Spanish came to America there was already an indigenous people here. When Christopher Columbus first came over on the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria,He thought they were going to find a passage to India so when they saw the people they called them Indians. In 1803 the immigrants now known as Americans bought some land from the French called the "Louisiana Purchase". The Americans then tried to make the Indians move to the territory known as Oklahoma so that the whiteman could go live in the land now known as Georgia, Florida and Alabama. The Indians should not have put up a fight when the Americans made them move. If the Indians would not have resisted they might have gotten more land, been treated better, they might not have lost as many people and been able to better run their own government.

Since the Indians fought with us and killed some of our men the Americans were not excited to help them stay alive and have more space. The government decided to put Fort Gibson in Oklahoma to stop some of the blood shed taking place.
