The Struggles of the Working Class

             In the past, the working class has struggled to keep up with the means of the world challenges. But with a new approach in today's society, the working class has found a way to avoid the twists and turns of struggling through the expanses of the economic and political landscape. Therefore the working class and labor movement are fully capable of meeting today's challenges.

             The purpose of this paper is to discuss the different struggles of the working class. The first struggle is to overcome the strikes on the basis of labor movements. Most strikes in today's society end on a successful note. Wage gains are secured, benefits are protected, and most importantly, the union men and women engaged in strikes did not fight the good fight, but in a style reminiscent of the 1930s. The battle for labor movement centers struggle to protect the 60 year old system of social security from its assailants on Wall Street and in Washington.

             Another area of working class struggle in this year is the collective bargaining negotiations. These negotiations include the steel workers, autoworkers, electrical wrokers, and the west coast longshore workers. The way these battles are fought will set the stage for how our country guides in the new century. These negotiations are the main battleground of the class struggle. The author agrees and states, "Let's join with all of labor and its allies to guarantee that the working class bring in the new century with earthshaking victories in this pivotal collective bargianing confrontations" (21).

             Also the purpose of this paper is to enlightened us on how newly eleceted AFL-CIO President John Sweeny has done a marvelous job on the shift change in the labor movement. As a result, the unemployment rate is at it's lowest since the 1960s. Some people may say that unemployment is a non-issue, however, the author does not agree. He explains, " the world economy is experiencing an economic down turn.
