Sexual Harassment Issues

            Sexual harassment is of the biggest problems facing businesses and workplaces today. As individuals who will be looking for jobs in the near future, you must be aware of this issue. Sexual harassment can happen to anyone. It is not limited to any specific genders, races, or ages. It can cause many personal or emotional problems. After being victimized by sexual harassment, the individual usually acquires a feeling of intimidation. Feeling intimidated, the individual"s emotional state is ruined. But, multi-million dollar awards made in sexual harassment cases suggest that people are overreacting to the problem, and lawyers are taking advantage of these profitable cases. As inmates who are soon to be released and will be job hunting, keep in mind that sexual harassment is hard to define, easy to allege, and very costly to wealthy companies. .

             Defining sexual harassment is one of the hardest things to do. There is a very large range as to what constitutes sexual harassment. That creates a great concern for men and women among the workplace. There is a need to be extremely careful as to what is said, the way you look, as well as what and where employees are touched. According to the sexual harassment policy at Tufts University, "Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination and violates state law." It can also be defined as any kind of sexual behavior that is unwelcome and/or appropriate for the workplace. Sexual harassment can embrace verbal harassment (i.e. derogatory comments or dirty jokes), visual harassment (i.e. derogatory or embarrassing posters, cartoons, drawings, etc.), physical harassment, and sexual favors (i.e. sexual advances or confrontation with sexual demands). Sexual harassment can also include animosity that is gender-based and a sexually charged work environment. In the workplace, sexual harassment can com from the owner, supervisor, manager, lead person, foreperson, co-worker, and/or customer.
