Ehrlichman appointed in July, 1971 a Special Investigation unit to investigate the leak of the Pentagon Papers. This group became know as the "plumbers". In September, 1971, Howard Hunt and Gordon Liddy broke into the office of Lewis Fielding, Daniel Ellsberg"s psychiatrist in Los Angeles. The purpose was to get information that would be damaging to Daniel Ellsberg who had leaked information (Archer, 41). The Nixon people were very concerned about a first class intelligence operation.
