Themes is the movie The Last of the Mohicans.
The movie, The Last of the Mohicans, takes place during the French and Indian War. However the themes in the movie are still relevant to today. The story is about a white man named Nathaniel, who has been living as a Mohican Indian, and what he does during this war. Throughout the movie there are many themes displayed; the most important are conflict, cooperation, and cultural diversity.
.
The main conflict in the movie focuses on the battles at the fort between the French soldiers and Huron Indians against the British soldiers and Mohawk Indians. The conflict peeked when the British were out gunned and they were about to lose control of the fort. The British had to send a messenger to get reinforcements. Then the cooperation occurred when the British agreed with the French to leave the fort and not return, since their messenger had been intercepted despite efforts to keep him safe. Cooperation also came into play between the French soldiers and the Huron Indians as well as between the British soldiers and the Mohawk Indians. In both cases the Europeans allied with the Native Americans to defeat their common enemies.
The cultural diversity was shown in many different ways. The colonists wore the clothes they had brought from their village. The British troops wore red coats and the Mohawk Indians wore a small amount of clothing which were made out of animal skins. These three groups were allied with each other against the French who wore blue coats and the Huron Indians who wore similar clothes to the Mohawks. In addition to different ways of dressing they also showed differences in their value systems between the Indians and the Europeans. Which was displayed in there negotiations regarding Nathaniel and his friend"s punishment. Magua, a Huron Indian, felt that because the British General killed his children that the General"s children should also be killed.
