Freud and Breuer worked together in the study of psychoanalysis particularly hysteria. Hysteria is a disorder that disturbs the mind of a person especially when one had traumatic experiences in the past. According to Freud, the root causes of hysteria are the emotions that had been kept that cannot be release. People who are hysterics mostly suffered from their childhood memories either they had been physically abused, sexually abused or emotionally deprived. Memories that are painful can be traumatic and because of this, it does not simply forgotten but it stays in the unconscious mind. A person may claim that painful memories banish but it does not because it remains in the unconscious of the person. The conscious mind deals with the reality but the unconscious is the ultimate desire of the person but then most of the time it is being repressed for the reason that it is being rejected by the society. The result of being repressed thought is that it can be felt through emotional energy. Freud said that it would only disappear if released or shared. .
Freud used the hypnotic abreaction as a way to release the subdued emotion of the person. Abreaction is an emotional eruption of person's feelings especially when one suffered from retrievable incident in the past. Freud used this hypnotic abreaction to his patient wherein he tried his patient to talk about what bothers her and those things that she cannot forget during his childhood years. It is quite hard to dig deeper especially when you talk about the past, because it is only the unconscious mind that knew in detail what had happened, this was one of the problem that Freud encountered during his therapy. Another problem with the therapy is it is not organize; there is no logic because it only divulges some psychosomatic things of the past.
