Being a U.S Citizen

To be an American means many things to me. To be an American means that you are a part of one of the greatest countries in the whole world. To be an American means that you have freedom, to do pretty much what you want, and to say what you want. It means that you have equality, because everyone is given an equal chance in America. It means that you right to go out and chase your dreams, and strive for your goals. To be an American also means that you are a citizen in one of the most diverse countries in the world, and that you must learn to accept everyone and their cultures, because you are one member of an entire country. I think being an American means that you have the basic freedoms that every human being deserves.

The thing that stands out most in my mind when I think of America is freedom. America is known as the land of the free, and that is true. Especially when compared to other countries, like China for example. In China they aren"t even allowed to say certain things without punishment. At least being an American I can speak my mind without worrying about being punished. I"m allowed to speak my mind, and do what I want in America. There is a limit to what I"m allowed to do, but compared to other countries we have it pretty good. Most things that I"m not allowed to do I wouldn"t want to do anyway, because it would be something like killing or robbing someone, which I wouldn"t want to do anyway.

When I think of being an American I also think of equality. America is a place where everyone is supposed to be treated equally and for the most part that is true. People in America are treated equally, and it is also against the law to do something bad to someone, especially when it is because of prejudice and is known as a hate crime. Which helps to protect everyone"s equality in America. Other countries do not have equality, and not everyone is given an equal chance at things unlike here in America, where everyone is given a chance to get an education and to make something of themselves they just have to take advantage of it.
