A year later Thomas publishes Desperate Remedies and a year from that he publishes Under the Greenwood Tree. After he publishes A Pair of Blue Eyes in 1873 he quits his career of architecture and pursues a career as a full-time writer. In September of 1874 Thomas Hardy marries Emma Lavinia Gifford. After publishing more books Hardy begins to live the life as a celebrity. In 1882 he designed and helped construct his Dorchester home, Max gate. In 1888 Thomas Hardy writes his first collection of short stories, Wessex Tales. In 1892 after his father's death inspired him to begin writing, The Pursuit of the Well-Beloved. In 1898 Thomas Hardy wrote his first volume of poems, Wessex Poems. Officially, after Wessex Poems were written, Hardy became an ex-novelist. After publishing a number of poems Emma suddenly dies on November 27, 1912. A year later Thomas's publishes his final short story, A Changed Man. January 11, 1928 Thomas Hardy dies. His ashes were buried in Poet's Corner but his heart was buried in Emma's grave. From living a life of diligent and honest work many came to agree he lived his life to his fullest potential. .
