             The controversies surrounding the Patriot Act.

             Obviously, there are many who complain that the new Patriot act only interferes with personal rights and is often used to discriminate against certain groups of people. For example, after 911 many Muslim immigrants were detained by US officials simply because of their religion or where they came from. However, since many Muslim countries have ties to terrorist organizations, it is easy to see why America was being overly cautious at the time. .

This act affirms the civil rights of South Asian, Arab and other Muslims in the Act. This Act condemns post-9/11 retaliation against these groups. This section rejects collective responsibility for wrongdoing and affirms that these groups will be treated as individuals. .

             The debates over the Patriot act and whether it is constitutional or not continues to date. There are many Americans who don't believe that personal rights should never be taken away in order to increase national security. On the contrary, there are others who argue that if you aren't doing anything wrong or illegal, then you really have nothing to worry about.

             According to Times U.S., "The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee is weighing fresh concerns about the sweeping nature of domestic spying using one controversial section of the Patriot Act. This particular part of that law is notable because it has been divisive for years and because during those years President Obama has quietly moved from being a Senator skeptical of the provisions to being an enthusiastic spy chief whose Administration embraces them. Furthermore, the committee met to consider the worries of some members, mostly Democrats, who say the Justice Department has drafted a breathtakingly broad interpretation of Section 215 of the Patriot Act.
